Happy New Year!!!

As we head into 2019, please include the following tasks in your New Year resolutions:

  1. Review your current estate planning documents to ensure that the people you have named as decision-makers and the distribution plans reflect your current wishes.

  1. Confirm that you have an up-to-date durable financial power of attorney.  A power of attorney is the most important document and, if you don’t have one and are not able to manage your property, your loved ones will need to seek court intervention.

  1. Review your will and/or trust.  If your documents were prepared in the 1990s or early 2000s, you may have provisions requiring the creation of trusts for tax purposes.  In 2019, each person has a federal estate tax exemption of $11.49 million, making certain tax planning unnecessary for most people.

We are looking forward to a great 2019 with you!
